Creating a Dream Board

I have been making dream boards to assist me in manifesting the things I want in life since 2006. A friend of mine introduced me to the book The Secret and it inspired me to create my own dream board and see if it worked. Well it did! I got everything I put on the board within the time frame specified. I took some time off of making anymore dream boards since I was a bit overwhelmed by how well mine worked and needed some time to adjust to all the change it brought into my life. When I was ready, last year I created another one, this time in conjunction with my husband. That board expired this month, exactly a year from its conception. When I reviewed all the goals on it, most of mine did not come true but all but one of my husband's did! So, I learned a valuable lesson - don't make a dream board in conjunction with another person! This time I will make my own and have him make his own. I believe that the reason all of his goals/dreams came to fruition is because I tend to put my own wants and desires on the back burner to allow for someone I love to receive theirs. Ultimately, I booby trapped myself.

For those of you who are unsure of what a dream board is and what it's purpose is, then I will explain. A dream board is a visual representation of all that you aspire to in life. It is a tool that allows you to consider what you want/desire in life and bring it into existence first through thought, then through words/pictures and finally through action. It could also be called a manifestation board or a vision board.

How does one make a vision board?

Step 1: Preparation

Determine a Time Frame
It is best to set a time frame for when you would like these things to manifest. Six months to a year is the standard amount of time. You don't want to set a date that is too soon to manifest your goals but you also don't want to set a date that it too far in the future.

Determine What You Want
This can be particularly difficult for some and very easy for others. For me, personally, my process includes meditation and contemplation upon what I would like to accomplish in the next year. Then, I list out on paper what I want/desire. The list includes words that describe how I want to feel as well as what I want to achieve and accomplish in all areas in my life. In my opinion, the focus on what I want is the most important aspect of dream board creation because it is through this thought process that one can communicate not only to themselves but to the universe what it is they desire most. The goals/dreams must be clearly stated and clarified, be specific and to the point, in order to avoid confusion and thus, a delay in manifestation.

Example of general goal - I want to get married.
Example of a specific goal -  I want to meet a man who is 30-35yrs old, has no children, is around 6ft tall, is generous, loving, spontaneous and physically fit. I want him to have blue eyes and light hair and have similar religious views to my own. I would like it to be "love at first sight" and to marry him.

Step 2: Creation

Choose/Draw Pictures, Words, Phrases for Your Board
Once you have down all the goals/dreams you wish to manifest for yourself, it is time to create images of what it is your desire. You can draw you own images, surf the web for them, or cut them out of a magazine. You should also look for words that fit your goals/desires and be open to any additional images, words or phrases that you may not have put on your original list.

Example of images or words one might include for above specific goal - Cut out or draw picture of a man that looks like what I want. Cut out words that represent characteristics of that man. Cut out pictures of wedding or engagement. Draw images of what I envision myself and this man to look like together.

Organize Your Board
Go through everything you have cut out and determine what matches exactly what you desire and what does not. Toss anything that doesn't feel right or go with your vision. Prioritize your goals/dreams. Don't put too much on your board for the time frame you chose. If you feel you have too much, extend your time frame or subtract some of your dreams/goals. One of the problems with my dream board last time was I had too many goals.

Place Images/Words/Phrases on Your Board
I use a cork board or bulletin board that is about 3'x4' but you can use a poster board, calendar, or even a photo shop picture you put on your computer screen. Depending on the medium you are using, you will need materials to put the board together. I used scissors, thumb tacks, markers, colored pencils, construction paper, and glue.

Organize the board in whatever way conveys the images and words best. Be creative! The more you create, the better! It is even better if you verbally speak the goals/desires you are placing on the board as you put them on it.

Place the board in a spot you will pass by and see every day. I put last year's board in the kitchen. I did not put it in a good place because I rarely looked at the board. This year, I will be placing mine in my home office, behind my computer.

Step 4: Manifest!

You are done! Glance at your board as you go about your daily activities.

Don't resist ideas or urges to do things that might lead to the manifestation of your dreams/goals!
For example, using the specific goal I used above, I needed to be open to meeting new people which meant I needed to resist the urge to avoid social situations. The goal was an actual goal I placed on my 2006 dream board. I met my current husband at a Mind, Body Spirit Expo quite by accident. I almost didn't go to the Expo but pushed aside my fear and followed through. Thus, I remained open to manifesting my goals and was rewarded with exactly what I wanted!

After I posted this entry in my blog, more events started happening that were on my past dream board dated July 2011-July 2012. My husband and I had put that we wanted to start a side business. Yesterday my husband told me that he and his brother were going to start a contracting job and register a DBA and plan out the company. Another thing on the board was to pave our road. I also found out yesterday that my grandmother, who lives down the road we live on, hired workers to come patch up the road and pave over some rough spots. We use that road, too, so ultimately we will be getting our road paved! Finally, I put that I wanted to find a preschool for my daughter. I got information earlier this week on a school that I may put her in part-time. It never ceases to amaze me how well dream boards work!

I finished my new dream board dated July 2012-July 2013 today. :)
